1. India to Host BRICS Summit in New Delhi

India will host the BRICS Leaders’ Summit on September 12–13 in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to hold key bilateral meetings with Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin. The Middle East conflict and its impact on energy and global trade will be major issues. India will also seek stronger economic cooperation among BRICS members. 

2. Crude Oil Above $100 Puts Pressure on Indian Economy

Escalating tensions in the Middle East have pushed Brent crude above $100 per barrel. The situation is raising concerns for India because the country is heavily dependent on imported crude oil. Higher oil prices could increase inflation and put pressure on the rupee and economic growth. Indian stock markets remained subdued amid these concerns. 

3. Rupee Falls to 95.44 Against US Dollar

The Indian rupee fell for the third consecutive session, closing at ₹95.44 per US dollar. The decline was driven mainly by rising crude prices and increased demand for dollars.
The RBI has been using market operations to manage liquidity and support currency stability. Higher oil prices and global uncertainty continue to put pressure on the rupee. 

4. Modi–Putin Meeting to Focus on Oil, Defence and Trade

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet on Friday. Discussions are expected to cover Russian oil supplies, defence cooperation and bilateral trade. Advanced defence platforms, including the Su-57, and cooperation in nuclear energy may also feature. The meeting comes amid pressure on India over its continued purchases of Russian crude. 

5. Tamil Nadu Political Tensions Intensify

Political tensions have intensified in Tamil Nadu following a confrontation involving Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and DMK president MK Stalin. Stalin criticised Vijay over his conduct in the Assembly and accused him of focusing on social-media reels. The exchange has become a major political talking point in the state. Tamil Nadu's emerging political realignment is likely to remain important ahead of future elections.
